P.6 Architecture Workshop
Today, 17th November 2016, P.6 enjoyed a fabulous workshop on Architecture by Charlie Stokes and Fiona Ewing from Aecom. Pupils learned all about what architects do, saw images of some amazing buildings that have been designed and had a real insight into how architects draw buildings to scale. Charlie also demonstrated how architects go about designing buildings and talked about his company's current project designing the Children's hospital at the Royal Victoria hospital. Pupils enjoyed designing their own plan for a hospital bedroom and changing it from a 2D page into a 3D room. Charlie said his company was really keen to get ideas from children to see what sort of things they think are important when c child has to stay in hospital.
Next the pupils used Lego to create models of things they would like to see in the hospital entrance and foyer to try to make this space a more interesting and exciting place for both patients and visitors. Pupils had some great ideas like a animal pen, a futuristic wheel chair, cafes, shops, fun roller coasters and many more cool ideas. Charlie and Fiona were delighted with the wide variety of ideas and the pupils' enthusiasm.
To end the session, Charlie was put on the spot with lots of questions from the pupils which he was more than happy to answer. Everyone was really enthusiastic and keen to find out about the buildings Charlie has designed. Watch this space Charlie and Fiona may just have inspired some future architects!
A huge thank-you to Charlie and Fiona for coming into school today and to Mrs Proctor for helping to organise it!
