Walk to School Week 2013

As a school, we celebrated Walk to School Week from Monday 20th May to  Friday 24th May.

Travelwise Northern Ireland promote this event every year to make children and parents more aware of the health, financial, social and environmental benefits of walking to school.  View website by clicking on the link below.

Mrs Wilson encouraged as many children as possible to make the effort to walk either all the way or part of the way to or from school.  Thankfully the weather was reasonably good most days and it was lovely to see so many children enjoying a healthy start to their day by walking to school.  A brisk walk to or from school also helps to contribute to the recommended one hour of exercise we need each day to stay fit and healthy.

All classes benefited from some extra road safety lessons from Mrs Wilson to ensure everyone knows how to cross roads safely and Mr Duggan, as always, learnt a hand, taking on the role on school crossing patrol person.  P.7 children had the opportunity to demonstrate their new cycling proficiency skills to younger pupils.  A number of children also carried out road traffic surveys to analyse traffic near school.

In light of the long awaited better weather we would encourage children to continue, when possibl, to walk to school.
